Electricity Generation

Maentwrog, Magnox’s last remaining generating site, is a 30MW hydroelectric station on the banks of the Dwyryd Estuary near Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. It has been operating since 1928 and generates electricity using water, which falls as rain in the surrounding area and is collected in a series of rivers, 'leats' and streams that feed into Trawsfynydd lake. The water is carried by a pipeline to drive two turbines, which generate enough electricity to power around 12,000 local homes each year.
