Waste strategy update
The Magnox waste strategy makes the best use of available and proposed assets and will save £200 million for the taxpayer when compared with previous plans.
We will continue to talk to stakeholders about our plans as they progress. They do not compromise safety, security or the environment.
The details being developed include: using concrete boxes instead of ductile cast iron containers where appropriate, and expanding the concept of sharing existing and planned storage facilities across sites.
We have now started applying for a number of planning permissions relating to the packaging and interim storage of intermediate level waste at Berkeley Site, Hinkley Point A Site and Bradwell Site.
This diagram shows the proposed movement and storage of waste across our English sites.
