Largs Viking Festival receives Socio-Economic Scheme funding

The Magnox Socio-Economic Scheme has awarded £1,000 to the 2016 Largs Viking Festival, which is to be held at the end of August.

Sean Marshall, Communications and Socio-Economic Lead Officer for Scottish Sites, went along to Largs recently to present the award to Largs Viking Festival representatives Cllr Alex Gallagher and Linda Young, Secretary (with Magnus the Viking looking on in the background).

Magnox is committed to providing socio-economic support and enabling sustainability in its local communities. This work is supported by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, which provides socio-economic funding through the contract with Magnox.

Ray Young, Treasurer of Largs Viking Festival, said: “This has been a particularly difficult year for funding our Festival so the Festival Directors are delighted to receive such generous funding support from the Magnox Socio-economic Scheme.

“This has enabled us to expand the provision of children’s entertainment including Star Dance Academy Dance Workshop, History and Horror Tours, YogaBelliesKidz, Ringmaster Parties where children can learn circus skills, a range of street performers as well as Creative Writing opportunities at the Viking BookFest.”
